Adventure In Japan - Part 2

Image
Takachiho is the name of the next place I visited.  I caught the Shinkensen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Hakata in Fukuoka; took me about half a day to get there. I bought SunQ Pass which would allow me to travel by train and bus for free for three days whilst I was in Fukuoka. I booked a highway bus from Hakata Station to Takachiho Bus Centre; the bus ride took around four hours. Once there, I dropped off my stuff at the Guesthouse and started to explore the city. It rained during my visit so I wasn’t able to see everything this town has to offered but I got to see what I came to see - the Takachiho Gorge. The Gorge was beautiful with small waterfall. I rented a boat and explore the Gorge up close. Another must-do activity in Takachiho is to watch Kagura dance at the Takachiho Shrine at night.  “Yokagura” is a repertoire of 33 ancient dances which have been passed down from generation to generation. It is said to have originated in a dance of “Ame no Uzume“,

Adventure In Japan - Part 1

Japan is one of the world’s most chaotic cities; a country with a long history of culture and tradition, and of course fantastic cuisine with authentic sushi and sashimi. I’ve been to Japan four times now and I find that there are still many things to do and many places to visit. My recent visit to Japan was earlier this year in late March to late April. This time in Japan was the spring season. The cities were filled with beautiful pink, white and red cherry blossom (sakura); however it was also raining which caused the sakura to blossom later than usual.  Nonetheless, it was enough to make me happy.  Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto were the three cities I’ve visited and personally I think Kyoto was one of the best cities to see sakura.   Kyoto – the places I’d recommend to visit are the Philosopher’s Path and Keage Incline. Philosopher’s Path Keage Incline Tokyo - the places I’d recommend to visit are Chidorigafuchi. You can visit during day time or night time wher

Stonehenge

Stonehenge! I visited Stonehenge in November 2015, and it is by far one of my favourite places I've ever been - I'm talking top 3.  I'm a history student, so archaeological sites are literally my favourite things to visit when on holiday. Stonehenge has always been on my list, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. That being said, my expectations were simply what the site is. BUT, If you come expecting something otherworldly and magical, well try and remember that those stones - sarsen and bluestone, brought from 32 and over 250 km respectively - have been there for an estimated 4500 years, and that seems pretty magical to me. When you visit Stonehenge, make sure you read the the information and have a look around the visitor centre where you first arrive - it will tell all about why Stonehenge is so impressive. It has information on not just the Stones at Stonehenge, but the surrounding area, which includes burial mounds, and an ancient lands

Dublin

Dublin The Spire, O'Connell Street, Dublin Dublin, Ireland, is a city with  tumultuous history - Still technically a part of the United Kingdom up until 1949, when it was explicitly declared a Republic following the 'Republic of Ireland Act 1948'.   Dublin is a city which feels full of life - even in it's cold fall/winter months (the time which I was there!). There's a warmth, and an age to the buildings, the streets, and the bridges, that I found irresistible with charm. Modern Shops live inside buildings which are over a hundred years old. Churches are dotted amongst the cityscape, and there are museums everywhere (for all tastes). All the while the River Liffey scrolls through the city from the Port, out of the bounds of the city, and into the country.  The Custom House, an 18th century buildings which holds the Local Government, Department of Planning, and the Department of Housing There are so many museums in Dublin, it would be hard for

Germany~

↠Germany↞ Goslar Gose River Hallo~! Germany is a stunning place, with some of the quaintest of villages and friendly people you’ll meet around the globe. Recently returning from a seven week trip across Europe, Germany would be my favourite of the places I visited. Goslar, Germany One village I stayed in was a town called Goslar, a pretty and peaceful town in lower Saxony. With traditional architecture and canals, it was a beautiful place to visit; its history and sites a bonus on the side.  There's an old building with a glockenspiel that plays everyday in the middle of the square and would recommend seeing it at least once!  Despite only being  in Goslar for three days, it stood out to me as one of the loveliest places to go to. If you're feeling in a peripatetic mood, Goslar is definitely a stunning place to visit, if you're looking for a quiet and quaint town.  Author: Jessica Harper
